Livin’ Proof: Inspiring Youth Through Basketball in Willingboro, NJ

In the heart of Willingboro, NJ, Coach Torrey Wilson and his fiancée Dionne Bolden lead a grassroots mentoring organization called Livin’ Proof. Their missions? To uplift the community’s youth through the power of basketball. This dynamic duo uses the court as a platform to attract kids aged 8-14, offering them a positive outlet through their skills and drills program.

Co-Founder Torrey Wilson has a passion for giving back to the children in his community. He volunteers his time twice a week to helping the youth learn the game of basketball.

What sets Livin’ Proof apart is its dual focus on both basketball development and character building. Coach Torrey and his team of dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to mentor and train the young participants, instilling values of hard work, dedication, and teamwork alongside improving their on-court abilities. The program not only hones the children’s basketball skills but also nurtures a sense of positivity and self-improvement.

With a solid team of committed individuals volunteering their time, Livin’ Proof creates a supportive environment where kids can grow both as athletes and individuals. The recent skills day event, where trophies and awards were presented to participants, showcased the program’s commitment to recognizing and celebrating the hard work of its young athletes.

There are 2 Divisions for the Livin’ Proof Skills & Drills program, 8-10 and 11-14. Twice a week kids got the opportunity to get better. The children all had a great response to the program and promised to be back next year. (Photo courtesy of ATH Photos)

But Livin’ Proof’s impact extends beyond the basketball court. In a region like South Jersey, where positive opportunities for youth can be limited, this program serves as a beacon of hope. For many children, it is their first introduction to the game of basketball, opening doors to new skills, friendships, and aspirations.

The benefits of Livin’ Proof’s initiatives are clear. By engaging children in constructive activities, they are kept away from negative influences and given a purposeful outlet for their energy and enthusiasm. Through mentorship and skill development, the program empowers young individuals to believe in themselves and their potential, fostering a sense of confidence and determination.

Moreover, the positive influences of Livin’ Proof ripple through the community. Families witness the transformation in their children, as they become more disciplined, focused, and goal-oriented. The program not only impacts the participants but also inspires other community members to get involved and support the next generation.

In a world where youth face numerous challenges, Livin’ Proof stands out as a shining example of how sports can be a vehicle for positive change. Coach Torrey and his team are not just teaching basketball; they are nurturing tomorrow’s leaders, instilling values that go beyond the court and into everyday life.

As the sun sets on another day in Willingboro, the sounds of basketballs bouncing and laughter fill the air, a testament to the enduring impact of Livin’ Proof. Through dedication, passion, and a shared love for the game, this grassroots organization continues to light up the lives of young individuals, one basket at a time.

We would like to thank the Livin’ Proof staff for their tireless work with the Youth.  There were also a few other volunteers with their own organizations who contributed their time and energy as well. A huge thank you goes out to Brent Foster, Coach Hus, Usman Tijani, Germain Mosley (Shoot 4 Success), Gerry Mosley (Shoot 4 Success), Roy Brooks Jr. , Jordan Wilson (Any Giving Day), Aaliyah Saud, DJ Outlaw (Garden State Outlaws), Stef Bingham (Hey Healers), Kaneal Shuler (Garden State Outlaws) and Brian Sheehan (Rise Up Basketball).  I’m sure the kids can’t wait to head into the Summer and showcase all of the skills that they learned throughout the course of the Livin’ Proof Ball ‘til you Fall program.
