Hudson Catholic: 3 Headed Monster
It’s no secret that the New Jersey North Non-Public School league will be jam packed with top tier talent this year. Hudson Catholic, a team that features 3 of ESPN top 100 rated, division I prospects, has their sights on a Tournament of Champions title and a State Championship to match. Their trio of Jahvon Quinerly, Luther Muhammad, and Louis King make Hudson Catholic strong contenders to making a run at the title. All summer long the three have been working out and shredding defenses on a national scale. This is the time of year year that, if you’re Hudson Catholic basketball player, a statement has to be made on the court. Securing the title won’t be easy, but they have the personnel to make it happen.
Jahvon Quinerly, amid the huge investigation that shocked the high school and college basketball world, has decommited from the University of Arizona. He hasn’t chosen a school yet and has directed his focus to just playing ball. He is probably the most talented player on the Hudson Catholic roster. At the point guard position there probably isn’t a player in the country who can match up with him. He can get to the basket with ease and finish with either hand effortlessly. He gets his teammates involved and is a vocal leader on the court. It’s going to be interesting to see which school will retain his services. Before selecting Arizona, Quinerly had narrowed his list down to seven schools including but not limited to Kansas, Villanova and Seton Hall. After speaking with him briefly at an event in Philadelphia he remains laser focused on getting better every single day and having the best season he could possibly have. He just wants to play the game he loves and let everything thing else fall in place.
The next piece of the Hudson Catholic triangle is none other than Luther Muhammad. A ESPN top 100 recruit who has committed to play at Ohio State next year. Muhammad, a combo guard from Jersey City, is a glue guy who can score in bunches. The 6’4 Muhammad can play either guard position and defend multiple positions. He has a tenacity about his play and doesn’t let up or disappoint at all. Always wants to get better. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and can lock up the other team’s best player at a moments notice. He was being recruited by some big names including Notre Dame, Xavier, West Virginia, and St. John’s before landing at Ohio State. Muhammad could end up developing into one of the best players in college basketball if he turns into a more well-rounded scorer and passer during his time at Ohio State. You can’t show me another guy as excited to be a Buckeye as Luther Muhammad is. He joins 4-star small forwards Jaedon LeDee, and Justin Ahrens, in Ohio State’s class. I’m looking forward to see Luther carve the Big10. Salute ?
Last but not least we have Louis King, the 6’8 small forward from Columbus, NJ is easily one of the country’s most talented high school basketball players. He committed to play at Oregon next year joining another high profile recruit, Bol Bol, son of 90’s NBA player Manute Bol. These two signings boosted the recruiting class ranking for Oregon. Sometimes you forget that King is 6’8 because of his smooth game. He runs the floor really well for someone his size and has a polished skill set that is sought after in the collegiate game. He has the basketball instincts that you just cannot teach. He can hit 3’s or score in transition. He simply gets the job done. Sky is the limit for King. It’s going to be interesting to see who will able to counter the Bol -King connection at Oregon. PAC-12 get your popcorn ready.
Hudson Catholic’s Big 3 has their work cut out for them this year. The NJ Non-Public B North division is the most competitive than it has ever been, with schools like last years TOC champion The Patrick School, Roselle Catholic, And Immaculate Conception all fighting for position. Each of these schools sporting their own power lineups packed with division one talent. Those guys over at Hudson Catholic are hungry to make a statement in the division. They understand that they have a target on their backs. Teams are going to try to come at them every single game. They just have to remain focused on their goal and work towards achieving that goal every day. Another state title would be ideal but the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is that TOC title. It is very possible that this is the year that Hudson Catholic makes history. With their big 3 and supporting cast anything is possible. It’s now time to show and prove. I’ll be following this team closely this season.
