Chet Holmgren Announces Commitment to Gonzaga
Chet Holmgren, the number one overall player in the country and national player of the year, announced his commitment to Gonzaga on Monday.
The seven footer out of Minnehaha Academy (MN) excels especially on defense because of his elite shot blocking skills, but Holmgren can also get it done on offense, as an incredible ball handler for his size and good scorer on all three levels.
Holmgren played with Gonzaga star Jalen Suggs in Suggs’ senior year of high school, when the two led Minnehaha to a 26-3 record in the 2019-20 season.
This season, with Suggs gone, Holmgren did not disappoint, averaging 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds and 4.7 blocks per game, while shooting 80% from the field.
Holmgren, a McDonald’s All American, released a top seven of Memphis, Ohio State, Georgetown, North Carolina, Michigan, Minnesota and Gonzaga in June.
Mark Few and the Zags now have multiple five star commits in the 2021 class, between Holmgren and combo guard Hunter Sallis, from Millard North High School (NE).
